The state of movies

Jacob and I went to the movies a few weeks ago to see Jake Gyllenhaal star in Source Code. After watching five trailers for some very manly movies, Jacob said that besides X-Men, none of them looked that good to him. Then he noted that all five of them are remakes, sequels or based on comic books. We talked about how there are hardly any original movies anymore. And then I was shocked to see what other unimaginative movies are coming out this year. Take a look.

Arthur - Remake.

Scream 4 – Sequel.

Water for Elephants – Based on a book.

Fast Five – Is this really the FIFTH installment in The Fast and The Furious franchise? I had no idea there were that many.

Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs Evil -Sequel. I didn’t know there was a first Hoodwinked.

Something Borrowed – Based on a book..

Thor - Based on a comic book.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides –Sequel/based on a Disneyland ride.

Kung Fu Panda 2 - Sequel.

The Hangover, Part II - Sequel.

X-Men: First Class – Prequel/based on a comic book.

Green Lantern – Based on a comic book.

Cars 2 - Sequel.

Mr. Poppers Penguins - Based on a book.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon – Sequel/based on a cartoon.

Winnie the Pooh - Based on books and cartoons.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 – Sequel/based on a series of books. It’s the final movie. I CANNOT WAIT! I’m getting teary-eyed just thinking about the end of it all.

Friends with Benefits – Didn’t we already see Natalie Portman and Ashton Kutcher in this movie earlier this year?

Captain America - Based on a comic book.

The Smurfs – Based on a cartoon.

Cowboys and Aliens - Based on a comic book.

The Help - Based on a book.

Conan the Barbarian – Based on a book, comic book and previous movies.

Spy Kids 4 – Sequel.

Final Destination 5 – Sequel.

The Three Musketeers – Sequel/based on a book.

The Thing – Prequel.

Footloose – Remake.

Paranormal Activity 3 – Sequel.

Puss in Boots – Prequel/spinoff of the Shrek movies.

A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas – Sequel.

Happy Feet 2 – Sequel.

The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Sequel/based on a series of books.

The Muppets - Based on previous movies, television shows and books.

Piranha 3DD – Sequel. Really? With that name? Really? With that premise? Again? Americans are stupid. You disappoint me.

New Year’s Eve – Based on the movie “Valentine’s Day.”

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol – Sequel.

Sherlock Holmes 2 – Sequel.

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo – Based on a series of books and a remake of the Swedish movie.

By the way, I thought Source Code was pretty good. As usual, Jake did an amazing job. I don’t just think he’s nice to look at, I actually think he has a lot of talent. It’s a little sci-fi mixed with action. I didn’t follow it completely and noticed as we were walking to our car that I wasn’t the only woman having a man explain it to her!

Bonus: Michelle Monaghan plays a character named Christina. I kind of loved hearing Jake say my name for an hour and a half!
