This week’s Friday Fives is just five random things. Ideas, thoughts, questions, anything that is on my mind. Even thought Beth can't participate this week, I went ahead and posted this because it was all ready to go.
1. Kayne West. Did you see this interview with Matt Lauer on the Today show? In an interview earlier this week, President Bush said West’s remarks after Hurricane Katrina were a low part of his presidency. So Matt Lauer confronted Kayne about it. Um...awkward.
2. The holidays. With all the craziness of moving in, unpacking and getting semi-settled in, I feel like I’m letting all the fun slip by. My brother-in-law is here this week on a break from naval officer training on the east coast, so we celebrated Veteran’s Day and Thanksgiving together yesterday since he won't be here for the actual holiday. It was delicious and I’m ready to do it all over again with my family in two weeks. Here’s Nolan taking a break at yesterday’s feast.
3. The death of Dave Niehaus. He was the voice and some say the heart and soul of the Seattle Mariners. It’s really heartbreaking for us. He was the lead play-by-play announcer from the M’s inaugural season in 1977 until his death on November 10, 2010. He’s the one who started calling Alex Rodriguez “A-Rod” and Ken Griffey Jr., “The Kid.” He also gave us our favorite catch phrases like “My, oh my!” and "Get out the rye bread and mustard, Grandma, it is grand salami time!" Let’s be honest here, the Mariners pretty much suck. Dave Niehaus might have been the only reason people kept attending games at the team’s lowest points. He had a way of making you excited even when they were getting their butts kicked. He will be missed!
4. The Carnival Cruise from hell. On Monday, a fire aboard the Splendor left the ship without electricity which meant no air conditioning, hot water or hot food. I’ve cruised three times and loved it all three times, but now I’m kind of scared. Besides hitting an iceberg or getting the flu, I never thought twice about what could happen on one. It wasn’t all terrible though. They got some supplies flown in from the USS Ronald Reagan. By “supplies” I mean Spam and Pop-Tarts. The ship offered free drinks on the third day and since there was a musician convention on board, they kept the masses entertained. Cause you know, nothing says fun like fake meat, warm beer and listening to music in the dark. I may be rethinking my next cruise.
5. November movies. I'm so excited to see Harry Potter (duh), Love and Other Drugs, 127 Hours, and Burlesque. I gotta line up some babysitters!
