mama said there'd be days like this...

i am a woman of plans.
this is irritating to me
and the people whose company
i enjoy

there are so many hours to the day
that i like to know (if only loosely)
what might occur

this is not to say i do not immensely enjoy
surprises,
spontaneity
and especially serendipitous events
these are after all,
the reasons i have found my
diverse companionships.

it's just,
why can't things be solidified
with a promise
with a kiss
with a hug
with a "i will be there because i equally enjoy you enough to make time for you"?

this is frustrating to me.
i want to stop making plans,
but the thing is
i like making plans.
i like
looking forward to
a coffee
a cigarette
a movie
a dinner
a drink
a walk
a visit
a phone call
from a friend
on the other end of the line
that wants me
as much as i do them

oh hey,

so it's been a while.
seeing as i haven't written much here.
i've been caught up living my life.
getting tattooed.
getting into school.
making friends.
losing grip on a couple.
making love in a new apartment.
playing with my dog.
reading books.
learning spanish.
cooking more.
smiling more.
getting over being the bad part that was me.

and in contemplation for the past month or so,
here's a couple things that...

suit my mood,

use to suit my mood,

and marilyn. just because.

Martinis are a Girls Best Friend

Diamonds are a girls best friend? I think not... just give me vodka or gin :)

James Bond might like them shaken not stirred, but us ladies like 'em anyway. I'm not particularly interested in "girlying-up" my drinks, so here's a few of my favs:

Original Martini

  • 1 1/2 ounce gin
  • 1 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
  • Dash of orange bitter
  • Lemon twist as garnish

Classic Martini

  • 2-ounce gin
  • 1/2 ounce dry vermouth
  • Lemon twist or green olive as garnish

Dry Martini

  • 2-ounce gin
  • 1/4 ounce dry vermouth
  • Lemon twist as garnish

Extra Dry Martini

  • 2-ounce gin
  • 1/2 teaspoon dry vermouth
  • Lemon twist as garnish

perigee and apogee

we were sitting in your car
driving along the coast
watching fire flies and tides
move in and out of the landscape
kind of like that VW commercial from like,
1999 or something.
remember that?
with the people waving their hands
through the air creating aerodynamic waves in the night?
the moon is full and the night is pregnant
with endless possibilities of where we'll go
who we'll meet
where we'll end up
i'm thinking to myself,
"god, i hope tonight's not boring"
we don't really say much to one another
but we both don't seem to mind
the distance between us is actually
kind of peaceful
in fact,
it's probably one of the most peaceful nights of my life.

politics

love it when you break the common laws of friendship
walk all over me
in one ear
and out the other
say one thing
do the other
laugh and avoid confrontation
beat around the bush
beat me up and knock me down
and mock me
all without knowing
caring
doing
or saying
anything.
