There have been several songs dedicated to sneakers over the years. You may recall the post A$ wrote a few years back on the topic, if not, check it here. I'm the Queen of iTunes playlists. I've got one for every occasion, mood, city I've been to, events I've gone to, etc. These days my "Rock The Bells '11" is on high rotation to get more hyped for the NYC show, but I've been gathering tracks here and there to add to my "Sneaker Music" playlist. Along with all the classics ("My Adidas", etc.) do you have any new(ish) favorite sneaker-inspired tracks for my list? On a side note, have you ever had somebody step on your toe and your first instinct was to shout out, "Hellllll nah, ain't no waaaay.." hoping that someone nearby would hit back with, "What's wrong?" I totally have. Check out some of my more recent favorite sneaker tracks.
**You know I had to throw in some Canadian 'ish for you (DL Incognito of Ottawa and The Lytics of Winnipeg)!
Mac Miller - Nikes On My Feet (fast-forward to 1:42 to skip intro)
It's no secret that I've got mad love for the City of Angels. I consider it my second home. To celebrate my birthday, I couldn't think of anywhere I'd rather be. So, I jumped a plane from Toronto to LA on Thursday and lived it up in the sunshine until Monday. The highlight of my trip was definitely Rock the Bells. More specifically, A Tribe Called Quest's set.
Here's a little sample: | Sidebar: I filmed this on my iphone, plus we were pretty far back due to the fact I'm getting old and can no longer tolerate pushy crowds. Oh, and the footage is shaky because there was no way I could stand still during that performance. |
Although it was a short trip, I made time to get my shopping game up. I hit up Fairfax and stopped in at Supreme, Undefeated, Diamond Supply Co. (where Wiz Khalifa just so happened to be) and then dipped into SURU on Melrose.
There I picked up a signed copy of Estevan Oriol's LA Woman. S/O to Lynnica who was holding down shop that day. I told her I'm FSF crew and she told me she's on the forums! The next time you're in LA, stop by the shop, say what's up to Lynnica - she's a total sweetheart! Plus, the store is dooope!
You already know I didn't leave the city empty handed, right? Happy born day to me!
B-Girl Be is back in action! This year's theme is Carnival, or as they say it:
"No longer just a sideshow and so much more than a freak show, women in hip-hop are THE soothsayers, the vandals, the beat contortionists, the ringleaders and the masters of ceremonies.... at B-Girl Be, we are the main event!
You are invited to a new spin on our annual event, the B-Girl Be CARNIVAL BLOCK PARTY—where beauty, passion, mystery, movement, culture and creativity collide in a wild celebration of hip-hop and the feminine divine. "
