Blue and pink cities?

Have you ever heard of The Blue City? I came across it the other day when I was Google searching for something else. The city of Jodhpur is located in India. It’s many palaces, forts and temples make it a popular tourist destination. It is known as The Blue City because of all the blue colored houses. I couldn’t find out much information about why they painted the houses blue, except that it was originally applied to help protect the houses against termites and other insects. Whatever the reason, isn’t it absolutely beautiful?

While looking up information on this city, I also stumbled upon a neighboring, called Jaipur, or The Pink City. It was the first planned city in India and at the time very architecturally advanced. In 1853, the entire city was painted pink to welcome the Prince of Wales. It’s sort of the opposite of The Blue City, because the city gates, walls, palaces and forts are really the only buildings that remain in the color pink.

This is the first day of my week full of blue and pink posts. Stay tuned...
