Sunday 2nd Oct: Postmodernism: Style and Subversion 1970–1990 at the V&A
The latest major exhibit to open its doors at the V&A is titled "Postmodernism" and has this iconic Jean Paul Goude / Grace Jones artwork for the poster. If you love the image as much as me and perhaps feeling the same trepidation I had, that an entire show surely couldn't live up to the impact of this one piece alone - fear not. It is just as exciting as you will hope for, and you will most definitely leave the gift shop with the book or at least the ISBN for your Christmas list.
Its a journey through some of my all time favourite names and here are a few to give you a picture (in no particular order!): Derek Jarman, Ridley Scott, Ron Arad, Vivienne Westwood, REi Kawakubo, Memphis (obviously!), Andrew Logan, Klaus Nomi, Jeff Koons, Leigh Bowery, Mr. Pearl, Michael Clark, Ray Petri, David Byrne, Peter Saville, Cindy Sherman ........ I'll stop there and let you go to find out for yourself......... discover the wondrous furniture, ceramics, jewellery, costumes, periodicals, music artwork and posters, periodicals..............
There is one portrait of Karl Lagerfeld from 1981 sitting in his apartment furnished in Memphis wares which perfectly sums up the whole thing ....... ridiculous and remarkable all in one moment.
