Cheers to SNL’s Jay-Z and Beyonce’s Baby sketch! I never watch SNL live. My kids get up at 6:00am so I can never stay up that late. I read all the facebook updates and tweets about how awesome it was and when I finally watched it Monday, I agreed. It was hilarious. Actually, the entire episode was really good. My other two favorite sketches were Bronx Beat and Super Showcase, but take a look at Blue Ivy right now. Every character was spot on!

Cheers to Lindsay Lohan hosting SNL! I know some people think this is a jeers, but I still have a teeny tiny glimmer of hope for her. Plus, her previous episodes have always been pretty funny. This will be her hundredth chance to prove that she’s well and serious about acting again. She’ll host on March 3 with musical guest Jack White. Don’t screw it up, LiLo! She will also play Liz Taylor in the upcoming tv movie Elizabeth & Richard: A Love Story. Hmmm...

Cheers to Struck By Lightning! Chris Colfer annoys the crap out of me on Glee, but he looks great in this movie and the rest of the cast is awesome. Watch the trailer.

Cheers to Call Me Maybe! Total guilty pleasure song! Canadian Carly Rey Jepsen sings this super catchy song that has been popular up north for a while now. After mention of it on Twitter by Justin Bieber and a fun little video including Bieber, Selena Gomez and Ashley Tisdale, the song is creeping up the iTunes chart. And I love it.

Cheers to Downwardly Mobile! Roseanne and Dan back together? Roseanne Barr and John Goodman are teaming up for a new sitcom about a trailer park. She is the owner and he is the handy man. I’m not sold on the premise, but I love both of them and was such a fan of the show Roseanne, that I’m totally giving it a shot.

Jeers to Chris Brown/Rihanna remixes. She should really stay away. If you're curious, you can find the remixes of her song Birthday Cake and his song Turn Up The Music on YouTube. I'm not gonna post them though. It's so twisted how they're using their tragic past for promotion. Not cool and I'm done talking about it.

Jeers to the Spice Girls NOT reuniting. I’m bummed. I loved them back in the day! There were rumors going around that they would perform at the Olympics or Jubilee, but Victoria Beckham confirmed that it wasn’t going to happen because they are all too busy. One item on their plate is the musical “Viva Forever” which I am looking forward to! What’s your favorite Spice Girls song? It’s so hard to choose, but I think mine are Stop and Say You’ll Be There. Oh, and Holler! It brings me right back to college when we had The Box on TV. (Did you have that channel? We never called it, but we watched it all day!)

Jeers to crappy TV. A few shows that I used to love are so boring lately. I can’t delete Grey’s Anatomy or How I Met Your Mother because I’ve been with them since the beginning, but they need to step up their game because I’m losing interest fast. I finally gave up on 2 Broke Girls and Are You There, Chelsea. I'll miss Beth Behrs.

Jeers to cashing in on Whitney Houston’s death. Bobby Brown is trying to sell a tell-all book. Whitney’s family sold the coverage of her funeral to benefit Bobbi Kristina. (Don’t you think she has enough money?) And Julien’s Auctions will be selling Whitney’s clothes and jewelry next month, after receiving them from people close to Whitney. This is all so tacky and disrespectful. Her funeral was just a few days ago! Boo!

Jeers to a serial killer in my hometown. No joke. This guy has killed two people and attempted another (all by stabbing) in the past nine months. He doesn’t fit the description of a typical serial killer because he’s young (they think 20 years old), his victims are totally random (19 year old woman, 50 year old man, 61 year old woman) and the attacks happened in the middle of the day, on pretty busy streets. My parents and sister still live there and when I went to visit this weekend, the town felt very eerie. The FBI is involved, there are posters of all over the city, everyone is on edge and they’re all being told not to walk anywhere alone. I was totally creeped out walking from my car to Starbucks just a block away. Scary stuff!

Cheers to good sitcoms! I love laughing out loud when I’m watching TV, but before this year there hasn’t been much to laugh about. I absolutely love newcomers Happy Endings, New Girl and Up All Night, along with my old favorites 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation and Modern Family. I’m also still enjoying 2 Broke Girls and Whitney and Are You There, Chelsea got a little better last week. I’m so excited for the premier of Don’t Trust the B in Apartment 23 after Modern Family on April 11. I love Krysten Ritter and James Van Der Beek playing James Van Der Beek? Awesome!

Cheers to Rachel Bilson’s rap! While it’s not nearly as good as Natalie Portman’s rap, Rachel’s is pretty funny. I love her and I love Hart Of Dixie so I thought it was cute, entertaining and adorable. I love The O.C. shout out.

Cheers to vacations! I’m going to Disneyland in February, Sacramento in March and doing a Tennessee/Missouri road trip in April. We'll hit Dollywood, Nashville, Graceland, Branson and St. Louis. There’s a possible trip to Atlanta in September also. I love vacations!

Cheers to Jennifer Aniston’s pregnancy!? Ok, not so fast. This is just a rumor, but I hope it’s true! Gossip sites would like you to believe there is a ton of evidence. She’s been skipping high profile parties, she stopped smoking, and she’s sporting a “six month” baby bump. I know, I know. I’m not usually one of those people who suspect a pregnancy when a star eats a cheeseburger. Also, most people gain weight when they quit smoking. And there’s no way she’s six months along with that tiny little “bump”. Plus, it could just be ill-fitting clothes or bad posture. I’d like to believe it’s true though, she would be such a cute mom! Team Aniston!

Cheers to Silent House! This is a remake of the 2010 Uruguayan movie La Casa Muda, based on real events that took place in the ‘40s. I’m excited. First, because I love Elizabeth Olsen. She was amazing in Martha Marcy May Marlene. Second, this looks like one of the scariest horror movies I’ve seen in a long time. And third, the movie is in real time and was shot in one take! Now that’s talent!

Cheers to Russell Brand! He’s writing another memoir. I’m a big fan of his first two books so of course I’ll pick this one up the day it’s released. It’s been reported that he’ll start where the last book left off and detail his relationship with Katy Perry. Ok, so maybe jeers? It’s kinda too soon to talk about her, right? I don’t care. I’m reading it!

Jeers to Lana Del Rey. Did you see her on SNL? She was terrible! I really wanted to see her perform because I like a few of her songs. But she looked so uncomfortable, didn’t seem to be aware of her body and sang like she was half asleep. I previously thought her voice was deep, calm and interesting, but during her performance she couldn’t hit the low notes and sounded so bad when yodeling. I guess not everyone hated her though. Her EP was released on iTunes the day after SNL and it’s currently at number 12. Her full length album is out on January 31. Although she was terrible, I’m probably still going to check out more of her music.

Jeers to Taylor Swift as Eponine. They’re making a movie based on the musical Les Miserables and they offered Taylor the main character! I like Taylor, but I don't think she can pull this off. She won the part over Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood. I honestly don’t like those three for the part either, but at least they've acted before. Valentine’s Day doesn’t count. I also don’t think Taylor can sing that well. But I am excited about the movie and the rest of the cast: Amanda Seyfried, Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Sasha Baron Cohen, Aaron Tveit, Anne Hathaway and Helena Bonham Carter. Wow!

Jeers to Sh*t People Say. I LOVED Sh*t Girls Say and a few after that were kinda funny too, but now it’s just getting ridiculous. There’s black girls, black guys, Asian girls, Spanish girls, gay guys, black gays, single girls, drunk white girls, vegans, yogis, monks, nobody, and now Sh*t People Say While Watching Sh*t People Say Videos. Last week, during our snow storm, someone even created Sh*t Seattlites Say When It Snows. Ugh. I’m over it. But if you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t seen the original Sh*t Girls Say, watch episode 1 and 2 immediately.

Jeers to Marilyn Monroe tributes. I want to see My Week With Marilyn and from what I’ve seen and read it sounds like Michelle Williams did an amazing job channeling the late actress, but I think the recent tributes are played out. Time to get original, people!

Jeers to Heidi and Seal’s divorce. So sad! They were one of my favorite celebrity couples. They seemed to have it all figured out and were very vocal about their love for each other. They even renewed their wedding vows every year! They are responsible, classy people so I hope the split is clean for the sake of their children.

Cheers & Jeers (Holiday Edition)

I really, really love buying Christmas presents for people. I put a lot of thought and effort into the gifts and everyone says I do a great job and get them exactly what they like. My husband doesn’t always agree with that statement because sometimes I buy him clothes that I like, not him. But isn’t that a wifely duty? I really don’t care about receiving gifts. The holidays are about spending time with family, traditions, good food, cheer, snow, and experiencing it all through my children’s eyes. But since holiday shopping is a national pastime, I thought this edition of Cheers & Jeers should be about the gifts I like and do not like. There’s nothing worse than putting time, money and thoughtfulness into a gift for someone and getting something totally lame in return.

Cheers to something thoughtful. Recognizing things I like and then really, really thinking about a variation of that item or idea is awesome. My sister is amazing at this. She’s never once asked me what I want. She always knows what I want before I even know it!

Cheers to something off wish lists. I have Amazon and Etsy wish lists along with a wish list board on Pinterest. If you’re smart, you will just search for someone’s list on various websites. Giving someone exactly what they want without asking them first is so much fun.

Cheers to experiences. I would rather get tickets to a musical, concert, sporting event or comedian over a physical present any day. I have a lot of stuff. I don’t really need anymore. Going out, having fun and spending time with a friend means a lot more to me these days.

Cheers to gifts for my kids. Like I just said, I have a lot of stuff. I’d much rather see my kids get excited over a simple new toy then receive something for myself.

Cheers to something practical. I’m probably in the minority here, but I love getting things I’ll actually use: a flat iron, iPod, Kitchen Aid mixer, etc. This year, Jacob and I aren’t getting each other Christmas presents. Instead we’re buying a new smart TV for the bedroom, a new printer and installing central air in our house. I’m 100% ok with this.

Cheers to gift cards. It’s impersonal, but I’ll take them over a crappy present any day. Even when I got a gift card to Sears from an extended family member, I was happy to go spend it on some Carter’s baby clothes. Macy’s, iTunes, Gap, Target and Barnes & Noble are my favorite! You can’t go wrong giving someone the gift of shopping.

Jeers to IOUs. I got two of these from the same person for Christmas and my birthday last year. Why? She knows I’m not going to call her up and say, “Well, you did say you’d take me to…” It’s basically giving someone nothing.

Jeers to food. Whether it’s a box of chocolates, bottle of wine or cheese and cracker tray, it’s so impersonal and the lack of effort shows! Unless it’s for a client, colleague, delivery man, or someone else you don’t know well, this is not ok. An exception is a favorite food from another geographical area or something rare, expensive or homemade. Just not fruitcake.

Jeers to jewelry. I don’t wear much jewelry, but when I do I want it to be my style. My mom, sister, husband and BFF are the only ones allowed to buy jewelry for me. No, friend, I don’t want some random beaded item from your aunt’s Etsy store.

Jeers to perfume. Everyone has a preference and unless you know the person really well or are buying a fragrance they are running low on, don’t do it. Just about every perfume I’ve been given gives me a headache.

Jeers to candles, bath beads, lotions and potions. Similar to perfume, everyone likes particular scents. Don’t guess that I like vanilla. I hate it. It smells like cigarette smoke to me. And I have sensitive skin so I stick to certain brands, which means I can’t even use your dollar store body wash.

Jeers to things I already have. If I’m, say, a golfer or a great cook (I’m neither), don’t get me golf balls or cooking utensils. I already have plenty of them and you probably just gave me something cheap and useless. For instance, I'm a movie watcher. Check to see which ones I have before you buy me something that I quote constantly and came out six years ago. Chances are I already have it.

Cheers to Megan Mullaly joining Happy Endings! This is one of my favorite new shows of last season. I also really loved Perfect Couples, but that one got cancelled. Megan will play Penny's mom in an episode. That's good casting. Here's hoping she gets more of a storyline.

Cheers to Project Runway All Stars! With weirdoes personalities and favorites like Austin Scarlett, Kara Janx, Rami Kashou, Sweet P and Kenley Collins, I’m pretty excited to watch this! It’ll have a new panel, but that’s ok. I’m not sure how much of Isaac Mizrahi I can stand though. I haven’t watched Project Runway since season 6, but I’ve got the last few episodes of the new season saved on TiVo right now. Is PR making a comeback?

Cheers to good movies! There are a ton of movies out this month that I want to see. Friends with Benefits, Crazy, Stupid, Love, The Change-Up, The Help, One Day, Glee 3D, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark and Our Idiot Brother. I’m not saying these are cinematic masterpieces, but I still want to see them.

Jeers to celebrity divorce coverage. Jennifer Lopez is the latest face to cover tabloid magazines regarding her divorce. Why are people so fascinated by this? I don’t want to hear about their rumored arguments, how they are getting back at each other, custody disputes, and who gets what money, house, car, etc. Divorce has got to be one of the hardest things anyone can go through. Leave them alone!

Jeers to Facebook. I’m so annoyed lately. Even more than usual. Some people are so stupid and I find myself picking fights after they post a dumb status update (only because they are wrong!). I know, I'm ridiculous. I really want to delete it, but I keep up with family and friends from all over the world through it. I did a major delete today of the people I can’t stand or don’t really know anymore. I think I just need a big break and in the meantime I’ve got to start getting to know Google+.

Jeers to Paris Hilton’s 14th fragrance. Is there really a need for fourteen? I guess can’t hate too much; I have three of Britney’s. I’ve never smelled any of Paris’s, have you?

Jeers to the Dirty Dancing remake. NO! No, no, no, no, no, no, no. They’ve already gone and screwed with my beloved Footloose. Please leave this one alone. Patrick is probably rolling over in his grave.

Jeers to date night/vacation withdrawal. Before Jacob and I had kids, Wednesday night was our weekly date night and we went on at least two vacations every year. I know that things slow down when you have kids. We were fully aware of that when we planned on having children. In the beginning my parents were very hands on, but they’ve had three foster kids (all under five years old) for almost two years now. The kids are relatives and their mom is an unfit parent. I don’t complain about it because they are doing something wonderful and selfless for three kids who had a horrible life. But I can’t help thinking…what about their grandchildren? They are missing out on everything. And since my in-laws don’t help at all, we never have a babysitter for an occasional date night and we haven’t had a vacation since last August. I’m in need of some alone/adult/relaxing time away with my husband!!!

When I was growing up, my dad subscribed to the TV Guide. This was way before Digital Cable and On Demand, so if you didn’t want to look in the newspaper every day, the TV Guide was the only way to see what time your favorite shows would be on. I loved it because it was a mini entertainment magazine. One of my favorite parts was the “Cheers and Jeers” section, so I thought I’d share my cheers and jeers of the past week in pop culture.

Cheers to Britney Spears! She released her album title (Femme Fetale) and artwork. I like it. It’s very Britney, typical of most of her album covers, but she looks great and I’m so excited for new music!

She’s also been releasing teaser trailers here that lead up to the premier of her music video for Hold It Against Me. She looks beautiful! I can’t wait to see it.

Cheers to Jake Gyllenhaal and Carey Mulligan! They attended the same play in NYC and then went to the same concert in Nashville last weekend. It’s been reported that they are just friends, but if it’s something more, I’m totally on board. I like them together. Kind of a slap in the face hanging out with her on Taylor’s turf though, isn’t it?

Cheers to the Glee! The Super Bowl episode was just plain fun. I’ve been watching Glee for a while now, but just recently started to love it. The song choices are better and there are less story lines about Rachel, so I’m liking it a lot more.

And I loved their Super Bowl ad. So pretty! Chord Overstreet looks goooood.

Cheers to me! I recently bought tickets for two concerts in July: NKOTBSB and Katy Perry. They should be fun, pop extravaganzas and I can’t wait to see them. Too bad I have to wait five months.

Cheers to SNL! Russell Brand will be hosting this weekend. I’m not too thrilled with Chris Brown as the musical guest, but I can look past that for my favorite British funny man.

Jeers to Bravo. They moved the season four premiere of The Real Housewives of New York City to May. I’m bummed! Miami is starting in it’s place, but I won’t be watching. The only two casts I enjoy are NYC and New Jersey.

Jeers to Charlie Sheen. I was never impressed by him. I think his show is one of the worst on television. But his behavior is out of control and frankly, I’m sick of hearing about his path of self destruction. He needs help in a major way. Take a look at his teeth. Don’t do drugs, kids!

Jeers to Halle and Gabriel. Their custody battle has turned really, really ugly. They need to keep their mouths shut and deal with their issues privately. It’s making them both look bad and that poor daughter of theirs is going to be able to read all the crap very soon.

Jeers to Egypt. I haven’t been following the story as closely as I’d like to (I just had a baby!) but I do know that anyone beating up on my boyfriend, Anderson, deserves jeers in my book.

Jeers to Kim Kardashian. She had a meltdown after seeing nude pictures in W Magazine that she posed for...IN THE NUDE. She claims they were going to cover body parts with graphics but in the end didn’t do it and didn't tell her. I think she needs to stop whining. Her ass is what made her famous to begin with.
