These unusual portraits are the work of artist, Eric Daigh. He creates them by using thousands of coloured push pins, arranged in grids, that form a picture when viewed from a distance. The works begin with a digital photograph, which is then processed on a computer. Each image is downsized to lower resolution and the pixels are forced to take one of five possible colours. Black, white, red, yellow and blue. Using the resulting image as a guide, Daigh's meticulous work begins as he carefully positions each pin onto a board, one by one. It is impressive to behold the patience involved. The pushpin pictures appeal to me because of the way that pixels and digital processing are involved, aligning with my long term interest in digital imaging.
