GANGTOK, Aug 5: Four unnatural deaths were reported in Sikkim during last 24 hours. While two students died at Ravangla in South Sikkim, two junior engineers died here last night.
The two deceased students have been identified as Pramod Chhetri (19) and Kamal Sharma (17). Both of them got drowned while swimming in Cho-Dzo lake on the outskirts of Ravangla yesterday. The duo were the class XII students of VC Ganju Senior Secondary School.
“Seven students were playing volleyball after school hours near Cho-Dzo lake. They later went for swimming. Seeking Pramod drowning in the lake, Kamal went to help him. Later both of them drowned in the lake,” police said.
In another incident, two junior engineers ~ Bikash Pradhan (35) and Jiwan Gurung (40) ~ died after they fell down from a four-storeyed hotel building here last night. The victims were working as junior engineers with rural management and development department, the police, added.
According to the police, the incident occurred during a farewell party at Dew Pond hotel here. The party was organised by Jiwan Gurung. as organized by Mr. Gurung. All were out after over of party but these two had checked out later. “The duo probably fell down from the building in a drunken state,” the police added. An inquiry has been ordered into the incident, they said.
